The Elizabeth Foundation at 40
“The Elizabeth Foundation at 40” publication celebrates four decades of helping young deaf children learn to listen and talk.
When our founders, Shirley and David Metherell, MBEs, started supporting families in their lounge all those years ago, they could never have predicted that the charity would grow into what is now the largest preschool provider for deaf children in the UK.
In “The Elizabeth Foundation at 40” publication you can read about the earliest memories from our founders. You can also hear from some of our past students through the decades, as they share their memories and talk about their time in the nursery. Our very first Chair of Trustees reflects on how much the charity has changed through the years, and our newest Chair of Trustees looks to the future for development and sustainability.
The work of the charity is supported through the power of partnerships. In the publication, you can find out about how we have built our partnerships over the last 40 years, helping us to come together as professionals to support local families and families further afield, and provide all-embracing care for young deaf children and their families.
As well as reading about how our services have changed and grown through the years, you can also learn how our fundraising strategy has developed over time to ensure that we continue to flourish for the next 40 years!
Dedication
We dedicate this publication to our co‑founder, Shirley Metherell, MBE, who sadly passed away last month. Her love, passion and dedication made this charity what it is today, and her memory will inform and guide our work for years to come.
